Alpine Division Scale Models, L.L.C. is named after the Alpine Division of the
Pacific Electric Railway. Running between the top of Echo Mountain, and the
famed Alpine Tavern. Built by Professor Thaddeus S.C. Lowe, engineering by
David J. Macpherson, the breath taking Mt. Lowe Railway was a Southern
California tourist attraction in the years July 4, 1893 to 1938. Alpine
Division operated what was considered in its day a magnificent attraction and
an engineering marvel. Different kind of models Built on the same spirit of
originality, innovation and excellence, our building kits are a bit different
then most of the other products on the market today. Our kits are hand made in
the USA using the finest materials and precision techniques, replicating true
scale models that stand out from the rest. How do we do it? For part of our
product line we use real steel, the other kits we make are mat board and wood.
The steel buildings are made from badge grade 10 thousands steel. Window and
door openings are punched with 4-ton punch presses. The bracing is made from
the same material and regular sheet metal machinery is used to form the
shapes. Our corrugated sides are made by running the flat steel through a
custom made machine that turns out real corrugated steel. The pieces are
either soldered or glued together. In many cases plastic doors and windows are
provided and the models can be painted with any quality model paint. The mat
board and wood buildings are made from top quality mat board and basswood.
Steel dies are used to punch out the shapes. The ease of construction and
overall fun that these kits provide make them an ideal project for new and old
modelers alike. Wood glue is used and plastic doors and windows are provide
with most kits, using quality model paints will produce very fine looking
models. Most of the steel and mat board kits have roof detail, some have
signs, some kits have lighting and some have interior detail. More of the good
stuff we offer... Alpine Division also builds top of the line innovator
walkaround throttles and has a line of scratch building supplies and spare
parts. We carry and ship products, tools and accessories made by other Hobby
Manufactures, Museums and Historical Societies.
