Steam L-4a Mohawk 4-8-2 w/Tender, Powered w/Sound/DC/DCC (Brass Hybrid) -- New
York Central #3101, w/Boxpok Drivers, Louvered Pump Shield Because their route
was flat, New York Central called their 4-8-2s Mohawks after the Mohawk River
instead of the more familiar Mountains. NYC had four different classes of
Mohawks, L-1 through L-4 used for both freight and passenger service. The
fifty L-4s produced by Lima Locomotive Works in 1943 had huge tender coal
space supported by two 6-wheel trucks. Smoke deflectors were added to many
units in later years. This brass-hybrid model is DC/DCC sound equipped and
features a five-pole can motor with skew wound armature and flywheel, full cab
detail, nickel silver rods and valve gear, prototypical light operation with
golden-white LED headlight and scale operating Kadee(R) couplers.
